COMPASSION

Elmer Javier Licona,
is a boy, 10 years old.
His mother left him in Honduras,
went north to make some gold.

He hitch-hiked 2,000 miles
through unfriendly land,
simply because he missed her,
but the Yanks don't give a damn.

A boy who wants his mother?
Elmer is nothing new.
OK,so he got to Mexico,
but the Yanks won't let him through.

He aimed for Los Angeles,
the desert city of romance,
but Elmer had no visa,
so he had no real chance.

His story was a small item,
on the paper's last page
and it made me bloody angry
about the boy kept in their cage.

But,there is no room for compassion
in international law.
They won't give him a visa,
just because he's poor.

I know I can do nothing for him,
except to write this verse,
curse the politicians
and pray for nothing worse.

Steal

( IM Walter Rodney)

We’d cased the joint of course
- had a great cover story.
Christians searching for lost souls.
Had a quick look inside,
planned the burglary with precision,
distracted them and nipped in
while they weren’t looking.

OK, so they got annoyed when
they realised we had got in
and were threatening to take it over
but we had the back-up,
a bit of steel, know what I mean?
Yeah, there was a little aggro
but we sorted it all out.
It didn’t take them long to realise
that we meant Serious business.

So, we took it over,
showed a bit of class,
let them stay on, as tenants,
and convinced them
that it was still theirs.
It was a real steal.
Its a great place, this,
Africa.
